loch Nessi
I had a grand day on Tuesday (23rd of March) making the most of this luscious weather we're having. Myself and Dom took the initiative and headed out to Nesscliffe, this was our 3rd visit and we started to get used to the local character of the sand stone crag (it is very soft in places so if you go please take care). Its footholds that spit you off with the 'wrong' pressure and tops so dirty that you long for the solid rock on a round grit top out. The atmosphere of the quarry both intimidates and inspires, lines so pure a guide book is only used to check the difficulties your about to face at hights reaching up to 50 meters. Of these pure lines my day started with the rather small (in comparison) My Snorkel (flashed after trying it ground up last time) followed by Dom who cruised it as well. we then turned our attention to the infamous Yukan II and was surprised to find after one top rope inspection, clean and checking a couple of move it went second go for both of us. After a long lunch and some feeling smug Dom lead My Violin, a 3rd known ascent, and you could tell. Dirty rock dominated the climb and added an air of uncertainty, a 3 star outing though despite this though (that is if you like reverse mantles and big runouts...) and with that we decided to end our day with a spot of light bouldering. Must go back soon though with so many more lines to do.

Simon Yates - Beyond the Void - Next Week!

Swimming up Stream
But then again we always are (swimming up stream that is), so what are we doing it for? We go through tireless struggles against an unpredictable weather, insecure thoughts and diminishing time. We can book time off work, leave our partner, friends and social life behind for a couple of days at a time and still were fighting for that one single hour in one single day from the hundreds we go out. And the best thing, if it wasn't for all the times spent frustrated, you wouldn't appreciate the present for what it is.
Just recently this has been my dilemma, yesterday spent at Frogatt, then Calver for a cuppa while the rain/hail stopped, Robin Hoods Stride and back to Froggatt and feeling taunted by the weather constantly changing. Still we (Dom and me) got on a few things, Strapadictomy, Oeidopis! Ring your Mother and Kaluza Klein. Unfortunately I didn't manage a clean lead on any of them, as is climbing sometimes. A kip out at the stride and we got rained off the lead of Kaluza again, ran away to Burbage south to get blown over walking in let alone climbing before finding Burbage West a nice little wind sheltered haven for bouldering (apart from a rain shower every hour). Despite the weather whipping us for two days we still had a great time being outside and climbing and I have a few things to get back too. As they say, 'getting out there is half the battle', and we got out there.
On a more 'topping out note' I managed Peter and the Wolf the other week at Hen Cloud, exactly what the guide says 'Classy bouldering at an uncomfortable height' loved it.

Simon Yates - Beyond the Void
We have teamed up with a Beech Hall School to present an evening with Simon Yates - Beyond the Void.
The renowned British mountaineer, Simon Yates presents some of his extreme experiences. Simon will talk about his extraordinary life spent climbing and exploring some of the most remote and rarely visited mountain ranges in the world. The evening promises an entertaining insight into climbing in the Pakistani Karakorum, the Tien Shan, Peruvian Andes, Chilean Tierra del Fuego and more...
Simon first came into the media spotlight with the BAFTA Award winning film 'Touching the Void' where human endurance and mental fortitude were pushed beyond the limits.
